Water Tanks With Escape Ramps Prevent Drownings
Many new tanks now come with built-in escape ramps like this one. (NRCS photo)Water tanks installed for livestock are used beneficially by many wildlife species as well. Unfortunately, if tanks do not include a wildlife escape ramp they can be deadly for wildlife, including sage-grouse, and pose a health risk too from drowned animals in the water supply. Fortunately, the fix is simple and funds are available through the Sage Grouse Initiative to help landowners either retrofit existing tanks or design new ones with ramps built in. The ramps have been tested and work extremely well.
